24hr ECG Monitoring / Holter Monitoring
24hr ECG monitoring/ Holter monitoring may be performed when an arrhythmia is suspected but not seen on a resting ECG.
24hr ECG monitoring or Holter monitoring is an ECG recording done over a period of 24 or more hours. Three electrodes are attached to the patient's chest and connected to a small portable ECG recorder by lead wires. The patient goes about his/her usual daily activities (apart from taking a shower, bath or swimming). A simple diary will be kept and any relevant symptoms noted on a diary sheet. The monitor is removed by the patient and returned to the clinic where a detailed report is then produced.
